Kathleen GroomHi! Thank you for visiting! I pray that as you mosey through my website you will see something that stirs and inspires you.

This is my favorite page because it gives me the chance to share my heart. As I tell you the story of my spiritual journey, I hope you will feel excitement for the next step in your own.

I grew up in a tiny, rural Montana town called Terry. (Home of the Terry High School Terry Terriers. I kid you not.) My dad was pastor of the Terry Wesleyan Church for most of my childhood. We lived in a circa 1916 parsonage which had intriguing historic features, like metal push-button light switches, deep closets with twists and turns, and one entire room with no doors or windows where allegedly someone died while the house was being built. (A myth, of course, but as a child it served as a marvelous mystery!)

My six older brothers and I grew up in the church, almost literally. Anytime anything was going on at the church, we were there. Fortunately, most of those experiences were positive and I developed a solid foundation in Christianity at an early age.

I was a teenager during the 1970's (the era of mini-skirts and vinyl car seats — a bad combo). During the time of The Jesus Movement and flower power, our church experienced a revival that rocked our little town. And it most definitely rocked me. I encountered God in a personal way that extended far beyond Sunday School and the Young Missionaries Workers Band.

Suddenly I wanted to know more, feel more, see more, have more of God. I discovered this was not an easy quest. With diligence and all the self-discipline I could muster, (a difficult task for a right-brained free-spirit like myself), I tried my hardest to live a "Christian" life the "right" way.

Over the years, my own efforts fell desperately short. My spiritual journey became miserable, dry and self-condemning. I still did all the "Christian" things, but everything I did lacked joy and fulfillment. I went to a "Christian" college, married a "Christian" guitar player, and dedicated each of my four babies as "Christians."

Then, one day my life began to change. God and my efforts collided over a box of Kleenex (I’ll tell you the entire story in my book!). He showed me how I had been serving "Christian" tradition, rather than obeying and listening to Him. A slow transformation began to take place, and I began walking in refreshing and life-giving freedom.

My heart is now filled with passion for God, my patient Father; Jesus, my Rescuer; and the Holy Spirit, my constant Companion. This is why I write and speak. I long desperately to free Christians who are diligently plodding along, trying to do the "right" things, and failing miserably.

I pray you will find spiritual freedom as I did. If there is any way I can help you, please call or write.

I am His humble servant,

Kathy
